Parmanu vs Padmavati: Will John Abraham's film get POSTPONED for Deepika Padukone-Shahid Kapoor-Ranveer Singh's magnum opus?

When Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films release, nobody wants to clash with them as the filmmaker’s box office clout is legendary. His last couple of films have done great business at the box office. But two films clashing always means one cutting into the other’s business, as it happened in 2015 with Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani and Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale, which didn’t fare as well as the former film. Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, was to release on November 17, 2017. But it will now release on December 1 this year, which has made the producers of films releasing on the same day do a re-think. Among those films is Abhishek Sharma's next, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, whose release date of December 8 may now get postponed because of Padmavati. Pokhran is being produced by Arjun Kapoor and Prernaa Arora’s KriArj Entertainment and John Abraham’s JA Entertainment. Pokhran may now release on February 23, 2018.

A source close to the producers says, "The shooting of Parmanu is complete and was the film was all set to release on December 8 when there came news of Padmavati getting postponed. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali and John Abraham never had a discussion about it, the actor, Arjun and Prernaa had an urgent meeting last week when the news came to them. They are taking a call whether they want to take on a clash with someone as powerful as SLB and a film which has powerhouse performers like Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the central role of Padmavati. What has shaken the producers of Pokhran further was the tremendous reaction to the Padmavati poster of the actress which trended on social media for a day. The coming week the posters of Shahid as Rana Rattan Singh and Ranveer as Alauddin Khilji, are also expected to release, along with the teaser later. All this is making the Pokhran producers extremely nervous. While John’s last film Force 2 did average business at the BO, Deepika-Shahid-Ranveer make a formidable trio in a film with brand Bhansali."

There are other reasons, too, for avoiding a clash with Padmavati. The source adds, "KriArj won’t come with SLB as Arjun and Prernaa are discussing some films with Bhansali and collaborating with him in the future so they will never clash with each other. They have immense respect for the filmmaker and would not dare to clash with him. Also their next film Roshni (tentatively titled) stars Shahid Kapoor and Sapna Didi stars Deepika Padukone, so KriArj wouldn’t want their own stars to clash with one of their own films. If Pokhran is delayed it will come by early next year and not December this year or January next year as Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai releases on Christmas. Nor will KriArj want to clash with Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth’s 2.0 which releases on January 25. Arjun, Prerna and John are yet to take a final call whether to postpone their film. They are exploring all options and alternates and will take a call by next week."
