Priyanka Chopra performs to Mujhse Shaadi Karogi song in front of Akshay Kumar at an awards show
Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar faced an awkward situation at an awards show recently.
Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra found themselves in an awkward situation yesterday at the Zee Cine Awards 2018 last night when the actress performed to a medley of her songs in front of the PadMan actor. Akshay won the Viewer’s Choice Best Actor Male for Jolly LLB 2 at the awards ceremony while she performed. But the two didn’t have a chance of bumping into each other backstage as Akshay collected his award and left after Priyanka went backstage post her performance.
Says a source present at the venue, “Akshay and Priyanka’s team earlier have always ensured that both are not present at the same venue at the same time. Not that there is any awkwardness between the two stars as both have moved on tremendously ahead in their respective careers, but just to avoid any unnecessary media speculations. This time apparently some miscommunication happened between them. Last night at the Zee Cine Awards, Akshay arrived a few minutes earlier before he was presented the award. When he came and sat down, Priyanka’s scintillating performance started amidst much sparkle and dazzle. After Akshay was seated, Priyanka entered and her first song was Teri Chahaton Ke Jal Se from Akshay and Priyanka’s hit film Aitraaz.”
Among other numbers that she performed to, the title song of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi was another. The source adds, “Amidst it all, the camera kept panning to Akshay’s face which of course they will show on television. Of course, the superstar had to watch the show as he had walked in a few minutes early. Akshay seemed to be enjoying it like he would, any other star’s performance. Fact is, that because of the timing he had no choice but to wait it out.”
Akshay had acted with Priyanka Chopra in her debut film Andaaz (2003). As the film was a huge success at the box office, filmmakers signed more films together. Their onscreen chemistry and offscreen camaraderie sparked rumours (which weren’t true) hinting at something more than a friendship but definitely stopped them from appearing in more films together. 12 years later when Akshay was asked on Aap Ki Adalat, if he had sworn to never work with Priyanka again, he said, "There is nothing like that. I have worked in five films with Priyanka. It's not like I don't want to work with her. Except for Rani Mukerji, I have worked with every heroine. If there is an opportunity, I will surely work with Priyanka Chopra. Let us call Priyanka Chopra and check if she has an issue with me. That way you will know for sure."
Another star whom Priyanka didn’t meet was Shah Rukh Khan who arrived earlier than her. He wasn’t spotted by the paparazzi as he didn’t enter on the red carpet. Media again has been agog with curiosity about their close friendship. The source adds, “Shah arrived through the gate reserved for the stars who were performing. Their vans were positioned there. By the time Priyanka entered the venue he had left so they didn’t meet each other.”
