Sooryavanshi, Radhe, 83: Status quo on the return of Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh on big screen
Waited enough to see Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh back on the big screen again? Here's a look at their plans to bring the audience back to the cinema halls.
After almost a year, the cinema halls have finally been permitted to operate at 100 percent capacity by the central government. The respective state governments too are slowly following the tide by giving an approval to operate at optimum capacity with staggered show timings. While the government approval gave some respite to the exhibitors, it was short lived, as 10-days since then, no Bollywood producer has come out to announce their release date. The Valentine’s Day weekend has been left open by Bollywood and now all eyes on the industry to see if they utilize two holidays’ in March – Shiv Ratri and Holi.
While just two films, Radhe and Satyameva Jayate have officially announced their release dates till date, all eyes are now on Rohit Shetty to announce the date of his ambitious cop universe film, the Akshay Kumar fronted Sooryavanshi with an extended cameo from Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh as Singham and Simmba respectively and Katrina Kaif as the female lead. A trade source informs that while the producers are keen to bring Sooryavanshi on either of Holi or Good Friday weekend, they are yet to reach a settle with the cinema owners.
The multiplex association have stuck their ground on 55 percent share, whereas Rohit and Reliance have made up their mind on 70 percent
“Rohit Shetty and Team Reliance have demanded 70 percent share from the exhibitors, as compared to the general norm of 50 percent. That apart, they have also asked for a shorter theatrical to OTT release window, scaling down the 8-week window to 4 week,” revealed a trade source, adding further that while the exhibitors have more or less agreed on the shorter window between theatrical and OTT release, they are far off from reaching a consensus on the 70 percent share demanded. “The multiplex association have stuck their ground on 55 percent share, whereas Rohit and Reliance have made up their mind on 70 percent. Their idea is to make up for the lack of revenue from key overseas markets like US and UK by getting additional share from Indian belt. The constant negotiation is resulting in a delay of announcement,” the source added.
A second theatrical trailer as also a series of new posters of Sooryavanshi are ready, however, the campaign would unwind only once the stakeholders are on the same page. The second trailer is said to be packed with ample of action and one-liners, which is sure to spike up the excitement around the film. Interestingly, they also have a standing offer from an OTT giant, which is in the range of over Rs 185 crore, which if cracked would be biggest for an Indian film. However, a closure of negotiation with cinema halls is expected to happen by February 15, as that would leave with 45-day campaign for team Sooryavanshi. “It will arrive in the cinema halls. Of course, there is a standing offer, but, things will reach a middle ground by end of this week with both parties settling in between with 60 percent share. The cinema owners can't afford to miss out on a film as big as Sooryavanshi, however, it's the need of hour for the makers to scale down on demand of their theatrical share."
