Gene Hackman, his wife, and his dog were found dead in their New Mexico home. The bodies of all three were discovered by Sheriff Adan Mendoza, who confirmed the unfortunate news to the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper.

The sheriff revealed to officials that no initial signs of foul play were indicated and that he was not aware of the exact time of their deaths.

Regarding the Oscar-winning actor’s early life, Hackman was born Eugene Allen Hackman in California. Interested in films since childhood, he would often skip work to go to the theater and watch movies.

Speaking about his family, the actor revealed to Vanity Fair that his father left home when he was young. In 2013, the late movie star shared: “I doubt I would’ve become so sensitive to human behavior if that hadn’t happened to me as a child—if I hadn’t realized how much one small gesture can mean.”

In a 2011 interview with GQ, the actor was asked how he would like to be remembered. The Superman star responded: “As a decent actor. As someone who tried to portray what was given to them in an honest fashion. I don’t know, beyond that.”

As for Mendoza’s statement, the sheriff revealed that police officials could not identify the body until 12:30 a.m. He added: “All I can say is that we’re in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant.”

He continued: “I want to assure the community and neighborhood that there’s no immediate danger to anyone.”

Further investigation into the deaths is underway.
