Michelle Trachtenberg was reportedly in talks to star in the reboot of the beloved ‘90s horror series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. An insider told Daily Mail that the Gossip Girl actress “was incredibly hopeful about it.” Trachtenberg tragically passed away on February 26, reportedly due to natural causes, aged 39.
The EuroTrip actress joined the show on its fifth season as Dawn Summers and remained a prominent character until it concluded in 2003. According to the source, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the title character in the show, was keen on bringing Trachtenberg on board for the reboot.
"The reboot would need her as much as it needed Sarah," the source claimed. Although the sequel is in its early stages, Trachtenberg’s “void” will be felt. The source added that fans were eager to see the actress reprise her beloved character, and she was equally as excited about the opportunity.
According to PEOPLE, the NYPD received a call reporting a “39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive.” EMS reached the location and pronounced the person deceased on site with no suspicions of criminality.
Although Gellar has yet to comment on Trachtenberg's shocking, untimely passing, the 20th Television — the studio producing the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot — released a statement to the outlet mourning the actress’s demise.
"Michelle touched a generation of television fans throughout her career, including in her unforgettable role as the independent and strong-willed Dawn Summers in 'Buffy,'” the statement read. The studio remembered the late actress as someone who poured her heart and soul into every role and had “remarkable” talent.
They further conveyed their heartfelt condolences to her friends and family. Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow Rosenberg in the vampire drama, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her late co-star.
