Robert Pattinson is eager to return as the Dark Knight but is aware of the long wait for The Batman Part II. In a recent conversation with his Mickey 17 co-star Naomi Ackie for Hero Magazine, he shared his frustration with the delay.

"I f---ing hope so," Pattinson responded when asked if filming would start soon. Laughing, he added, "I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f---ing old Batman by the sequel."

The actor, now 38, jokingly called himself old but later clarified, "I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit."

Warner Bros. initially announced The Batman 2 at CinemaCon in April 2022, with a planned 2025 release. However, the film was delayed to 2026 and then pushed further to October 1, 2027. The delays have frustrated fans, but DC Studios co-chief James Gunn shared the reason behind them.

James Gunn shared on Threads that the delay was due to the lack of a complete script. He said director Matt Reeves was focused on making the best film possible and writing a script could take an unpredictable amount of time.

Gunn also stated that once the script was finished, the film would still need about two years for pre-production, filming, and post-production.

At the Mickey 17 premiere in London, Pattinson provided a small update on The Batman 2. He revealed that he expects filming to start by the end of 2025, as per Variety. "And I know what it’s about, but I can’t tell anyone," he said. "But it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting."

DC Studios co-head Peter Safran also recently confirmed that director Matt Reeves has not yet turned in a full script but assured fans that what they have read so far is incredibly encouraging.

James Gunn acknowledged the frustration over the five-year gap between The Batman (2022) and its sequel but defended the timeline by comparing it to other franchises.

He stated on Threads that long gaps between sequels were common, mentioning that Alien and Aliens had a seven-year gap, The Incredibles took 14 years for a follow-up, and Avatar had a 13-year wait. He also noted that Top Gun: Maverick arrived 36 years after the original, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 came six years after Vol. 2.
