In a development surrounding the controversy of the late actress Kim Sae Ron, her family has come forward to refute the sensational claims made by YouTuber Lee Jin Ho, which suggested that Kim Sae Ron had been “possessed by a spirit” to revive her acting career following the aftermath of her drunk driving incident. This shocking accusation had been circulating online, leading the actress’ bereaved family to issue a strong statement in response.
On April 14, Kim Sae Ron’s bereaved family responded to the controversy, categorically denying the allegations in an official statement to a media outlet. They emphasized that the claims made by Lee Jin Ho were entirely false and that the story of spirit possession had no basis in reality. As quoted by Koreaboo, “It is false news that a spirit possessed her. She became interested in the field after appearing in a work based on folk beliefs in the past. The shaman is just an acquaintance and nothing more,” they clarified.
Specifically, they pointed to her work in the 2014 film Manshin: Ten Thousand Spirits and the 2021 K-drama The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim, both of which delved into spiritual and supernatural elements. These projects sparked her natural curiosity about the subject matter, but there was no external influence or possession involved.
The claims made by Lee Jin Ho were particularly shocking, as he suggested that Kim Sae Ron underwent a spirit possession in September in order to revive her acting career. He further alleged that the owner of the Apgujeong Pub had facilitated this supposed possession, insinuating that the pub owner had some involvement in influencing the deceased actress’ actions.
However, the owner of the Apgujeong Pub quickly responded to these allegations, firmly denying any involvement. In a statement, the pub owner said, “If Sae Ron were possessed by a spirit and I had arranged it, I would close the store immediately and quietly disappear.”
This exchange has sparked even more discussions surrounding Kim Sae Ron, adding to the ongoing debates about her career, her alleged underage relationship with Kim Soo Hyun, her tragic passing, and the aftermath of the drunk driving incident that led to major public scrutiny.
