Superhero universe is mostly crowded by men and that’s why it is super refreshing to see Marvel’s first female-led standalone movie.
Starring Brie Larson as the titular ‘hero’, the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially introduces Carol Danvers with this movie.
Set in 1995, the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed film tells the story of Carol Danvers and her journey to becoming Captain Marvel, after the earth gets caught between two alien worlds' fight.
Talking about Brie and her performance, those who had doubts on Larson’s ability to embody the role, this film certainly erases them all.
Brie's performance is 'marvel' lous. It’s her first step in the MCU and I have to say she is here to stay. She rightly brings the strength and the emotional vulnerability aspects that this particular character required.
I think she ideally imbibed the character with integrity and compassion, and she looks stellar in the iconic Captain Marvel suit.
Speaking of her camaraderie with none other than Samuel L Jackson, without a ounce of doubt, the same is what elevates the film many notches higher.
If Brie and Jackson are heart and soul of the film, she’s perfectly aided by a strong supporting cast.
Lashana Lynch who plays Danvers' friend and fellow Air Force pilot in the film will impress you with her impeccable acting chops. Also, makers get A+ in casting Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. They deserve the most credit among the supporting cast.
Talking about another incredible supporting cast member, Goose, Danvers’ cat, she undoubtedly stole the show and cat lovers will rejoice the most.
Coming to the story, the weaving is done apltly enough to be engaging and fun. 90s nostalgia is there but without overdoing it. Also, the stunt choreography and the vfx is one of the finest that I’ve witnessed till now.
The movie makers deserve an applause for the distinctive stance on feminism as it doesn’t resort to male bashing or faux feminism to get its point across.
The major takeaway from Captain Marvel movie is Stan Lee signature cameo in the film. The same will make you super emotional.
And finally, the post credit scene without which no Marvel movie is complete is a major surprise and will make all MCU fans hop in joy. I cannot reveal it but I can just say it received a huge round of applause, shrill cries and hooting from the audience.
In a nutshell, it is a lot of fun with alot of action and drama. I have to say Captain Marvel is not just a great origin story but also an ideal Avengers prequel. If she is pitched to be future of MCU, then she is the bright beacon of hope.
