FryDay Mid Movie Review: The sleazy humour in Govinda’s film is as dull as a DRY DAY

Fryday Mid Movie Review: Govinda is a comedy legend with hits like Hero No. 1 and Coolie No. 1 but FryDay is something the actor needs to erase from his career.

"Pumps bade hai, guts nahin!" Is just one of the punch lines in this snoozefest of a situational comedy called FryDay. No one can touch Govinda when it comes to comedy but even his screen presence can't save this dud. FryDay is a situational comedy about Gagan (Govinda) and Rajiv (Varun Sharma). Rajiv is the typical no-good chocolate hero whose job at PP purifier is at stake and his girlfriend just dumped him. On the other hand, we have the flamboyant Gagan who is so creepy that even his wife won't sleep with him. This leads Gagan to have an extramarital affair with a much younger Bindu (Digangana Suryavanshi). In his last attempt to save his job (selling atleast one purifier) Rajiv lands at Gagan's house. The only problem is that Gagan has Bindu over because his wife is away for a day, which is, *drumroll please* Friday! What follows is a severe case of misunderstandings.

Govinda is a comedy legend with hits like Hero No. 1 and Coolie No. 1 but FryDay is something the actor needs to erase from his career. The cheap humour would have been funny during his prime days but with the recent wake of the Me Too movement, FryDay could not have come at a worst time. A cringeworthy scene comes when Rajiv's boss is seen flirting with his employee who is clearly uncomfortable.

There is one sort of memorable scene which is the theatre scene, and you get the old Govinda back for a few minutes. The one who could make us laugh in the blink of an eye. But the the rest of the first half, is just disheartening to witness. Varun Sharma's frustrated act perfectly mirrors our frustration at watching the film and as Rajiv, the actor does not entice even an ounce of laughter.

Abhishek Dogra's direction highly relies on its actors but the weak storyline and even weaker script makes this comedy as dull as a dry day.

For the second half, we hope FryDay (Friday) gets over soon!
