This Punit Malhotra directorial which is a sequel to Student of the Year (2012) brings forth a new batch of 2019 for the viewers this time, but it suffers due to the predictable plot and OTT scenes.
So, if you are looking for refreshing change in romance in Bollywood then you will be disappointed as Punit has followed old school campus musical and Bollywood melodrama.
Talking about the performances, Tiger has a charismatic screen presence, but he hardly looks like a college kid and same is the case with Aditya Seal. On the other hand, Ananya as cocky and a spoilt brat comes across as someone who is trying too hard; however, Tara fares well. But I feel their roles should have been interchanged for better.
But one character which towers over others is Tigers sidekick's role which is played by famous YouTuber Harsh Beniwal. I think he got some of the best written dialogues which are otherwise quite pedestrian.
Speaking of direction and editing, it quite good and the pace of the movie is thankfully fast. But what sorely disappoints is how I as an Indian cannot relate to the campus drama as it is too westernized and unrealistic.
In a nutshell, the first half is a typical KJo movie which is lavish, larger than life and glossy. Hope that director has steered the storyline to a better path in the second half.
