Cracking up months of shrivelled revenues and footfalls in theatre owing to the pandemic, Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan’s recent release Krack has managed to rule the Box Office. The film also marks the comeback of Ravi Teja and director Gopichand Malineni who are elated with the response.

It was a difficult call for the producers. The theatres had not shown great enthusiasm from the public. On the other hand, several filmmakers and distributors were betting on an OTT release to secure revenues. It is therefore pertinent to question what prompted them to opt for a theatrical release? “During Lockdown we got many offers from OTT platforms to release Krack on their platforms. However, I was sure that I needed a theatrical release. The actor Ravi Teja also supported my decision. We thought people would love the film but the kind of response we are getting, I realised it was worth it,” said Gopichand Malineni, the director of Krack.

“I was expecting people to like it but we didn’t expect this huge. Now it has become the biggest blockbuster in Ravi Teja’s career. I am happy that all families, ladies and kids are coming to the theatre,” he added.

Many makers are now looking at cross-releasing or remaking southern hits for Hindi film lovers. While some have become game-changers, some have bombed despite earnest attempts by star cast, producers, and the army of publicists. Asked if he wishes to see Krack remade by Bollywood, he said “It’s great that Bollywood is picking up stories from the South and remaking them. I would love to remake Krack in Hindi and would be done in Bollywood style.”

However, the director cleared that he intends to direct the film even if it’s made for Hindi Audience. In fact, he divulged his choice of actors to play the lead. “I would love to cast Ajay Devgn or Ranveer Singh for the lead role of the film. They are apt to play the role and have the required energy and elements to portray the character.”

Sharing details on his upcoming projects, the director said, “I am working on another script. It’s a very big production house here (Telugu film industry). Everything will start soon. [With the success of Krack] definitely people will expect more and I will try my best to make the audience happy,” he concluded.
