Netflix recently announced the premiere of "Starting 5," a new documentary series launching on October 9, 2024. The series follows five NBA stars LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum during the 2023-24 season, highlighting their challenges on and off the court. Comprising ten 45-minute episodes, the series is produced by LeBron James' Uninterrupted, alongside Higher Ground Productions and Omaha Productions, with executive producers including Barack and Michelle Obama.

At the red carpet premiere for "Starting 5," James and Tatum greeted each other with handshakes and brief hugs before posing for photos.


The documentary, created by Uninterrupted in collaboration with Higher Ground Productions and Omaha Productions, goes beyond the players' basketball careers. It provides insights into their personal lives, showcasing how their families cope with their fame.

Directed by Susan Ansman, Peter J. Scalettar, and Tristan Williams, the series will unfold the stories of these five players across ten 45-minute episodes. Netflix is releasing it as a spin-off of its successful NFL-based films, "Quarterback" and "Receiver."

James and Tatum's handshake went viral on social media, eliciting mixed reactions from fans who both celebrated and trolled the two superstars. Here are some of their comments.





Netflix provided a brief description of what fans can expect from "Starting 5":
