Asha Negi, who shot to fame as Poorvi in Pavitra Rishta, was on a sabbatical for a couple of years before she made a comeback with her web show Baarish. The actress, undoubtedly one of the most popular ones, sure knows how to make her fans go gaga over her with her craft and smile and Baarish was no different. In the last few years, we have seen Asha become a travel buff of sorts and we caught up with her exclusively right after she returned from her short getaway to Kerala. In a chat with Pinkvilla, Asha revealed how over the last few years she learnt to not let her happiness depend on success or failures, of being fed up of answering marriage questions with Rithvik Dhanjani, and not being ready for long-term commitments.
Excerpts from the interview:
Baarish received a warm welcome from the audience. But since you were making a comeback after a long time, did you feel nervous about the reception?
I am definitely very happy after getting such a good response to my comeback. But frankly, these couple of years when I did not do anything solid in fiction, I think I have really worked on myself and what I have realised is that success and failures are so temporary that you should never let your happiness depend on that. I am telling this from my experience because before I took this break, there were two of my projects that did not work and I felt so so bad at that time which affected my self confidence a lot. After that, I told myself that I will take up something where I will be creatively satisfied. Whether it does well or not is secondary, at least I will be satisfied. These years taught me a lot, hence I was very happy after doing Baarish, irrespective of its fate, because I was creatively satisfied with the work.
Did you miss acting during the sabbatical? You enjoy a huge fan following, how do you handle that sort of fame?
I definitely missed acting a lot, missed being in front of the camera but not like my happiness would depend on it. Also, I am not too friendly when it comes to handling fame. I see Ravi Dubey and Rithvik handle it so well. Even when they are holidaying and someone comes and asks for a picture, they oblige but I want my time. Not that I want to be rude with people but I like my space. When it comes to fame, I did not miss it much. Of course, it used to pinch sometimes when everyone else was working but with time I fought with that as It wasn’t like I wasn’t getting offers but I was the one waiting for the ‘right’ one.
Will you be open to doing a daily soap now?
Frankly, if I get a finite show which has a great concept, I wouldn’t mind doing it. With TV, you never know when it is going to end, it becomes monotonous after that. But this web series is nice as we are done in a finite time. I am not ready for a longer commitment though, that I have done already with Pavitra Rishta. Now, I want to get out of my comfort zone and try new characters. I want to play cop onscreen after seeing Shefali Shah in Delhi Crime.
You recently shared a meme on being asked about marriage. Was that a hint to everyone of us asking you on your relationship with Rithvik?
I am in a very happy place. We are not in a hurry to get married. We are very happy in each other’s company. Everybody will get to know when it has to happen. We won't do it in hiding. Jab pyaar itne khule aam kia hai toh shadi kyu chupke karenge. Lot of people say that you guys are so open about it and I am like, yes, what is there to hide? We are in love, we are not doing anything wrong.
