EXCLUSIVE: Bigg Boss 11 evicted contestant Priyank Sharma: Call me gay, bisexual or straight but don't make fun of the community
Priyank Sharma in an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla says, "I personally feel that I should be apologetical for what I did because my actions were not so up to the mark and not expected from the person that I am."
Bigg Boss 11 started with a bang with housemates launching scathing attacks on each other right from Day 1. While the Salman Khan show is infamous for stirring up controversies, this time it seems to be full of homophobic and misogynistic people.
The result of which was Priyank Sharma, who was considered one of the most strong contenders for the show, had to face untimely eviction after a brawl with Akash Dadlani. For those uninitiated, while Akash Dadlani continued to spew venom against Vikas Gupta and his mom, Priyank lost his cool and he pushed Akash in what can be called an impulsive reaction.
Amidst speculations that Priyank may or may not return to the house, we caught up with him to ask about his short journey, his brawl with Akash Dadlani and his encounter with Shilpa Shinde and Arshi Khan.
While many felt that his eviction was unjustifiable, Priyank says that he thinks that it is not for him to say that but he does feel that his actions were not up to the mark. “I stood up for what was right because I thought it was necessary for me to take a stand there, although my actions could have been better. At the same time, what Salman [Khan] Bhai did was also justified because you cannot push anyone like that. I personally feel that I should be apologetical for what I did because my actions were not so up to the mark and not expected from the person that I am.”
But does he feel that the decision was a bit too harsh? To this, Priyank said, “I wouldn’t say it was harsh because things were very balanced. Even while Salman Bhai was disappointed at me, he took a stand for me by making a few statements. He took my side when he said that he was thinking I would go far in the game. It was not a harsh, harsh decision. He is a mentor, a host, he knows it, so when he scolds someone, there is a reason behind it.”
Except for that one untoward incident, Priyank did manage to impress the audience. Describing his short journey, Priyank said, "It was an amazing and different experience. So basically, I have done reality shows before, hence, I felt I know this but once I entered the house I was like 'what a madhouse this is?’ There is a lot to learn. To be honest, I have not seen such people ever in my life before, a few people who keep poking and are only keen on spreading negativity. Though my actions could have been better, I could have handled it in a different way, but it is a completely different experience inside the house.”
We also asked Priyank, if he felt that the show was too high on homophobia this year, to which he said, “Yes, I don’t know why! Being bisexual, gay or transgender is not an abuse but to make fun of this is not acceptable. The way they [Shilpa Shinde and Arshi Khan] were portraying it, it looked like it is an abuse. The show is being watched by kids and youth, what message will go outside?”
He added, “Being gay is not a problem, CALL ME GAY. Being a bisexual is not a problem, please CALL ME BISEXUAL. Being straight is not a problem, please CALL ME STRAIGHT but don’t make fun of any of it.
So, does he regret doing what he did? “No,” comes the answer. “I don’t regret my actions because I took a stand for what was right but I am disappointed because I know I am smart enough to handle such situations in a better way, violence wasn’t required,” Priyank added.
