EXCLUSIVE: Rupali Ganguly lists down 4 similarities & 4 differences between Anupama & Monisha Sarabhai

Rupali Ganguly is presently garnering praise for her performance in the hit TV show Anupama. The drama has been well received by the audience from its inception and is consistently topping the TRP charts. However, there is another popular character that Rupali is known for, and that is Monisha from Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai. While both her characters are poles apart, there are also some similarities that Rupali’s loyal fans might have noticed. So Pinkvilla got in touch with the actress who listed down 4 similarities and 4 differences between Anupama and Monisha.

Check out what she has to say about the similarities between her two characters.

“1 - To begin with, Anupama believes in recycling. If you see the second episode of Anupama, there is this beautiful tie box that Vanraj gets as a gift. So she picks it up and keeps it in the kitchen to use. Also, the bow that was attached to the box she sticks it to the knife that was used to cut her birthday cake. So yes, Anupama also believes in recycling, and Monisha from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is ofcourse the recycle queen.

2 - Another similarity between the two is that they are both middle class.

3 - Anupama and Monisha both love unconditionally. Both their mother-in-laws (Leela Shah in Anupama and Maya Sarabhai in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai) have been tough on them, but they still love them. Interestingly, their father-in-laws (Hasmukh Shah in Anupama and Indravadan in Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai) in both the shows have always been very supportive. In fact, Arvind Vaidya ji who plays my father-in-law in Anupama had played Madhu Fufa in Sarabhai.

4 - Anupama and Monisha are both very innocent. Monisha would often try to be street smart by bargaining and striking cheap deals, but she was also very naive, and I think it was her innocence that got the audience hooked to the character. Similarly, Anupama’s innocence is something that people connect with. They are both truly underdogs.”

While these were the similarities, let's see what differences does Rupali list down.

“1 - Anupama is sarvagun sampanna. She can manage the house and work, both pretty well while Monisha is the complete antithesis of her.

2 - Monisha has the most loving husband who indulges her idiosyncrasies. I mean hats off to Sahil Sarabhai, and even my husband as I am like Monisha in real life. However, on the other hand Anupama has this husband (Vanraj Shah) who is very vicious and terrible to her.

3 - Another difference is that Anupama doesn’t take care of herself at all. Monisha chahe kadhi hi laga leti thi face pe (Monisha would apply kadhi on her face), but she would still do something.

4 - Monisha would sit in front of the television the entire day and would be lazy all the time, but Anupama just doesn’t have the time. She would always be working and looking after her family and the house.”
