Sehban Azim gets candid about his upcoming show Bepannaah, the challenges he has faced and his equation with Jennifer Winget and Harshad Chopra.
Sehban Azim who is most remembered for his stint on youth popular show Dill Mill Gaye is all set to swoon the TV audience with his charm in his upcoming show Bepannaah alongside Jennifer Winget and Harshad Chopra.
The first look of the show was unveiled recently and it has already raised the curiosity levels amongst the audiences. His onscreen chemistry with Jennifer has become the talk of the town and we cannot wait to witness what the show has in store for us.
The team recently returned from Mussoorie where they had been shooting for the first leg of the shoot.
Given the excitement, we recently got in touch with the handsome actor for a small tete-a-tete regarding his show, the challenges he has faced and of course his equation with Jennifer Winget and Harshad.
Here's an excerpt from the interview:
You will next be seen in Bepannaah. People have a lot of expectations from the show. What was your first thought when you were offered this show?
For now, all I can reveal is that it's a very different show and I haven't worked on such a different story before. I feel people are going to connect to each and every character because all of them have been sketched Beautifully. When Aniruddha Rajderkar narrated the idea and the storyline for the first time the first thing that came out of me was..."OMG this is brilliant, when do we start." I wish and pray that people have the same effect that I had. "OMG, this is brilliant"
Your equation with Jennifer has always been in the scrutiny. Did that ever affect your camaraderie?
Naah. I don't think it had an effect on us or our friendship. We laugh it off.
You in an interview said that romancing Jennifer onscreen is kind of awkward and comfortable at the same time for you. Are you nervous how will the audience react to the onscreen chemistry in Bepannaah?
I am nervous just like I'm nervous for any show that I do. As an actor, we do wait for people's response and we do want the portrayal of the characters we play to be loved and appreciated. God has been really kind so far and I hope and wish for the same for bepannaah
Your thoughts on working with Harshad Chopra?
An absolute delight, we have worked together in Gul Khan's show called Humsafars on Sony TV and we become good friends and have been in touch since then. He is a very hard-working actor and been there in the industry for quite a while. I guess working with him will surely add more to my learning experience.
From Dill Mill Gaye to now Bepannaah, how do you think you have evolved as an actor?
I believe not just the actors but for anyone in life, professionally or personally the more work they do, the more they live, the more they learn, the more they evolve. I believe there's a lot of change in me as an actor, also because since Dill Mill Gayye I've seen more life that can be added to the characters I portray and working constantly and learning constantly is also adding to my evolution being an actor. Its a never ending process and I'm evolving everyday and I'm loving it everyday.
How do you think has TV evolved since then?
I think it's still the same for last 8 years, production has issues with budgets, quality suffers, creativity suffers, actors get less money, producers are gradually shifting outside Mumbai to balance out the cost of production and on the other hand channel is suffering and pushing hard for Trps, these no bound script because we have a Trp based television and so the sponsors keep fluctuating that results in slashing down the budgets. But of course some production houses and channels are struggling hard for creativity and good content and are still managing to provide good products and deliver Trps but yes it's kind of been almost the same for a while.
You have played a number of characters on TV. Which is that one character currently which you would like to play and why?
That's the most difficult question to answer. I would want to play every character possible. That's our job. I have no such favorite character I want to play.
Share the biggest challenge you have faced till date in your acting career?
The only bad phase was when I became too picky and took too long to choose a role after Dill Mill Gayye...after a while I had no calls coming in and I had no work for the longest time. But then you learn with your experiences and mistakes...
We see a lot of TV actors now venturing into big screens. Your thoughts?
I'm glad for all the TV Actor who are venturing into big screens. We all should explore different mediums and not stick to just one form, whether it's TV, films, Web or Theatre. I, as an actor, would also want to explore them all.
