Shaheer Sheikh, 34, is undoubtedly one of the most handsome and talented actors we have. From playing a college-going teenager in Kya Mast Hai Life to playing a romantic hero in Navya to playing the mythological character, Arjuna in Mahabharata and finally playing a doting son and a father in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, Shaheer has proved his versatility in all his projects. Not to forget what a perfect host and talent he proved to be in Indonesia. With the sea of talent he has, his popularity is shooting high every passing day.

The actor turned 34 on March 26 and has been in the news for his upcoming projects. While Shaheer is yet to confirm if he is a part of Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2 or a show on the lines of Mughal-E-Azam, we got in touch with him. Over a telephonic conversation, Shaheer revealed about his wishlist, from learning the craft and getting better at it, his first shot, how playing Arjuna shaped him and his thoughts and much more.

Without much ado, here are the excerpts from the interview:

On his wishlist:

About my wishlist, I only wish to live yaar, live my life to the fullest and not just survive. I want to explore this world, I want to see everything that God has created, as much as I can. I want to travel, meet new people, explore as an actor, do different kinds of characters, help people and maybe if I can be an inspiration to someone, maybe understand what I should do in life and spread the knowledge.

On his journey on Television:

With me, there have been drastic changes. I come from a very small village, I don't think anyone else from my village was on TV before me, so, yeah it was a big thing for me. I had never done acting before so it was completely new to me and I had no idea how it started. I still remember my first shot for my first show, it took me one day to complete one scene. We couldn't complete the scene because I couldn't do it (laughs). That was my realization, I guess, that it won't be easy. But, over the years, with experience, you learn so many things, you understand the craft and find your strengths. As a person, being an actor has made me a better person because you learn so much. When you portray a character, you are living it, it teaches you so much. I think Arjuna [from Mahabharata] made a very big impact on me as a person. I think every character of mine has taught me something.

On what kind of roles is he in pursuit of:

I choose something which is always exciting and different and has a motive behind it. Like, Mahabharat had so much to teach and the makers were aiming for that and I was like this is once in a lifetime opportunity and playing Arjun, anybody will want to do this. It's a dream come true to play the best warrior of Indian mythology. The same goes with Navya, the show was new to the time it was aired, it was the first college romantic show on Star Plus. It was a bold move, I think, at that time and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi is most recent. It was completely different. It was completely opposite of what was working at that point but we believed in it.

One thing I make sure of is that I shouldn't have done this in the past. Like it has to be different because it gives me satisfaction as an actor when I try something new. I am not being monotonous. I want to challenge myself, maybe put me out of my comfort zone. For Arjuna, I was supposed to speak ancient Hindi and it was not easy. I studied in an Urdu medium school so I did not have a great command over my Hindi but I wanted to take up the challenge. So, I guess, that is it.

On his popularity in Indonesia:

I look at everyone around the world as my brothers. I was never expecting so much love from other countries, I don't even know the language and had never been here [Indonesia] before. It was a humbling experience. I could never imagine this. The one thing this made me realise was that Indian TV content is being liked all over the world, not just Indonesia. I was recently in Thailand even there I saw so much love.

On being a part of a reality show like Bigg Boss or Khatron Ke Khiladi:

I don't know that. (sighs) At the end of the day, I am an actor and would want to act and play a character but it totally depends if my dates are available and if there is something interesting and exciting enough for me. I might do that but right now, maybe no. I would rather prefer doing a character because it is very exciting when you have to prepare for a character, live someone else's life. I feel whenever I play a character, that character consumes me during that period because I am hardly myself at that point. But maybe in future, you never know. Never say never (laughs).

On if relationship rumours with co-stars affect him:

No, I think nowadays people do understand that stuff like this is just written to get few hits or just to promote the show. Actors are quite aware of that fact now so mostly it doesn't affect but social media sometimes does affect your mood, not much, but for that day maybe.. when you read a nasty comment and you are like, what is this? Most of the times, it is not even close to the reality. I am okay if there is something and you blow it out of proportion but if there is nothing and you are talking about it, it doesn't make sense. I mean somebody once wrote I got engaged in Bandra in some house, I I don't even live in Bandra. People were calling Maa (Supriya ji) and asking her did she attend my engagement and she was confused if I got engaged without telling her and I was like, 'What Maa. Come on, I will tell you if I am getting engaged' It is just a figment of someone's imagination. It doesn't bother me much as I can't do anything about it. If I react, it then becomes a bigger issue so I just keep quiet.

On doing web series:

I want to. I have been approached for something but I want to start something on my own and that is the main reason which is stopping me from taking up other web series. We have already written a few episodes, it is just that we need to find the time and begin shooting. Hopefully, it will happen this year.
