In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Vivian Dsena finally opened up on his exit, his journey on the show, his sabbatical and not being social media savvy. Read on.
Vivian Dsena is one of the most well-known faces on Indian television. The actor rose to fame with Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, Madhubala: Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and was last seen in Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. Vivian made an exit from the show which also stars Rubina Dilaik. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Vivian finally opened up on his exit, his journey on the show, his sabbatical and not being social media savvy. Over to Vivian:
What is your current mind space since you are on a sabbatical post many years?
I am chilling, taking it easy, spending some time with my mother as I have not given time to her in the last three and a half years.
They must be happy having you around?
My family is very understanding; they give me my space and are always like, 'he is working, let him work'. My mother has been a working woman for 43 years in Railways. So, she knows the value of sustainability and work. Keeping everything in mind, they are very happy whenever I find time for them.
We know you love photography. Why don't you post some of it on social media? Why do you remain so aloof from the medium?
My mother gifted me a camera on my last birthday and she is happy that I am finally putting it to some use, now that I have time. I am not the kind who would share personal pictures on social media. I always connect to fans whenever it is required; I always wish them on festivals, but I am not a social media person since beginning. I don't like to share the nitty-gritty of my day to day activity. It is not like I have changed as I have always been like this. I don't want to change myself and be social media friendly, and go crazy because that is not me.
In all your shows, you have picked up different characters. Be it that of a vampire in PKYEK or an arrogant film star in Madhubala... and then Harman in Shakti...
That is the thing. I look for versatile roles. I somehow feel that I shouldn't cheat my audience by repeating myself, but even if I do, there will be a reason behind it, maybe it is the second season of the show and that was the demand.
The role of Harman is something many would say no to. What made you say yes to it?
I was going to say no, but then I just thought I should do it (laughs). The subject of Shakti is very sensitive keeping the Indian sensibilities in mind. So, even I was in two minds about it. When I was speaking to the channel, and they narrated the story to me, I was also shocked and was apprehensive thinking people might get offended. But then, I was like someone will do, let me do it. The channel thought I could do it, so I lapped upon their trust.
The show was surprisingly accepted very well by the audiences...
Sometimes even you don't think so (people will receive it with so much love). But if you see on Indian television, the purest form of love story is of Harman and Saumya. To show a love story of a transgender for three years is a task, hats off to everyone who has been a part of the journey.
Was it difficult to walk away from the show?
Everything in the world comes with eventuality. Honestly speaking, I thought the leap was the time when I could walk off. Imagine after 20 years of a leap, I have a son who is 22 years old, and I am myself 30 years old... it isn't relatable to me. Imagine the young actor speaking to me as buddies once the camera is cut. Somehow, I did not have a conviction towards this and they knew this from day 1 that post leap Vivian wouldn't be comfortable doing this. This is nothing new. Actually, during Madhubala too, I had left the show post leap.
What about Bigg Boss? Did you also receive an offer for it?
When they offered me Bigg Boss, I was doing Shakti and there were creative talks going on with them. But imagine, a person who is not even active on social media, how will he be comfortable in front of the camera all day confined in a house.
