Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai starring Mohsin Khan and Shivangi Joshi in the lead roles has achieved a landmark of its own by being the longest running Hindi GEC daily show with the most episodes telecast in its kitty. The show produced by Rajan Shahi completed a decade recently and has been only growing by leaps and bounds every single day. In an exclusive chat with Shahi, we asked him about the success of the show, whom does he credit that to and the mutual faith he shared with Mohsin and Shivangi as Kaira. Over to Shahi:
What has been the best, surreal, challenging part of having a show run for a decade?
What has been a great part is that there is a very good team which believes in the show and there is immense support from the directors and production, it has a very dedicated team who take the entire onus of the show. And of course, no show can complete such a successful run without having the support from the broadcaster. Today, the one thing we all feel is more than whatever the challenges we faced in terms of changes and evolution, what I would give credit to the show is the certain things that have been consistent for the last 10 years, the enthusiasm, dedication and the individuality of everyone associated with the show is still there as if this is the first day of their shoot. I always feel that as long as you are humble, dedicated towards the show, honest to your work, success follows. NO ONE is bigger than the show. Somehow, this show has always retained people who have belief and faith in the show and new addition are also made with people who come and create new enthusiasm and energy. That is the success mantra, I guess.
How did YRKKH manage to remain relevant till today?
I think one of the major reasons would be that we have been able to evolve without changing the texture of the show. We have been able to evolve in terms of story line and characters with the audience. Every few years, the country goes through a change in terms of financial and social policies and YRKKH has moved with the time. This has been the most challenging and unique part of Yeh Rishta. A lot of shows for immediate gains do a lot of over dramatic, steroid pumping if you would say, but YRKKH somehow been never been tempted to do that. We have very wisely said that we will tell our story the way we want to, obviously, it will have its own dramatic points, but just for TRP sake, we will not shake up our characters big time.
A favourite character of yours?
I think one thing which we all understand and is a fact about Yeh Rishta is that every scene that comes out more brightly is like a puzzle because even if one piece or character is missing, it will not strike the chord. Every character has contributed over the last 10 years to make the show what it is today. Kartik and Naira have really evolved and have been able to connect with the youth. All the actors, Shivangi and Mohsin included, have really worked hard and have done their parts well, each complementing the other. I think that is the success story for each character.
Mohsin and Shivangi managed to pull the show together post Hina Khan's exit. Did you ever feel this was possible?
I think personally, it has been a lot of hard work done by the actors themselves, Mohsin and Shivangi. There was a great team which really worked hard for this. It was a challenge for us at that time but their hard work and humility paid dividend. I always tell them till date that till the time you have the humility towards your fans, team, respect for the show, especially honestly, dedication towards work and unit. The day any character thinks they are bigger than the show or the unit, I think it would be a difficult time for that character in Yeh Rishta. But fortunately, Shivangi and Mohsin since the day they started their dedication towards work is phenomenal. I always thank them also saying that they have a long long journey and a lot to explore in YRKKH.
Have Mohsin and Shivangi ever had a conflict in terms of plot? If yes, how do you work it out with them?
I think any actor if he has reservation about a plot, it is very natural because until and unless they are convinced, how will they portray it convincingly. But I have been fortunate that till date Mohsin and Shivangi has never questioned what I have in mind. A track might play out well or not but what keeps me motivated me that both Shivangi and Mohsin have never questioned my conviction in a track or a story. So, that is the faith and it is mutual. I know what they will do to the best of the capability and I have faith in them. And that motivates all of us to do our work better.
