EXCLUSIVE: Zain Imam on his character in Ek Bhram Sarvagun Sampanna, being secure as an actor & web series

Zain Imam, who rose to fame as Neil from Naamkarann, will be seen alongside Shrenu Parikh and Tanvi Dogra in Dipti Kalwani's show Ek Bhram Sarvagun Sampanna. The promotions for the show are on in full swing, and Zain in an exclusive and candid chat with PINKVILLA spoke about his character in the show, being a secure actor and what kind of content intrigues him. The actor also opened up on how he is the favourite choice when it comes to playing servicemen and if he is in touch with his Naamkarann co-star Aditi Rathore.

While the promos for Ek Bhram Sarvagun Sampanna have majorly highlighted Shrenu's character Janhvi Mittal and her sinister deeds, we asked Zain to reveal a few details about his character. Sharing his excitement, Zain said, "I am playing an army officer who wants to serve the nation because his grandfather was in the army. However, his father is very rigid and wants him to join the family business. But, due to a promise made to a friend, he ends up marrying his friend's wife, shocking his family. So, thats the journey for my character and it will be very interesting to witness, right from making his family accept his situation to exploring the new side of characters."

While we thought that Zain would perhaps be seen romancing Shrenu on the show, he burst our bubble and added, "Shrenu's character is a little negative and she plays my Bhabhi. To keep the viewers interested, we have just showed shades of it. There is a lot of family drama, thrill in the show."

Ask him if he has any sort of fascination regarding playing servicemen on-screen, Zain laughed off, "I don't know. I have been offered so many army roles, even for a web series recently I was offered a role of an army officer. People probably consider me fit to play the role of an army personnel or seeing me in army uniform makes them believe I fit into the shoes pretty well. But I make sure whatever role and content is given to me, I do justice to it."

Stating that a lot about his character is still kept under wraps in the promos as a strategy, Zain explained, "I am still at the forefront and will continue to do but I don't have that kind of any insecurity. If the story demands that I am not shown too much in the initial promos, then be it. I also spoke to the producers regarding that and told them I am okay not being highlighted too much in the promos initially but the show has to be good. You cannot be selfish there and that I have always maintained."

Though he agreed that initially, he did feel weird of not being in the first promo and is currently waiting to see how the audiences react to his character.

What about his camaraderie with Shrenu, given that the two did meet on the sets of Ishqbaaaz where Zain did a cameo. "I did not know Shrenu so much before but when I was asked to do a cameo in Ishqbaaaz, I got to know her. Thanks to Naamkarann, my character was loved so much that the channel and the producer wanted me to do the negative role in Ishqbaaaz. But, my most of the interaction with Shrenu has happened now on the sets and it has been good."

Zain also quipped that for some reason, producers find him lucky and he is hoping that the show though given an early slot might work due to its content. "Content is important, and I think people have started to realise that now. As an actor also it helps you give extra when you know the content is good. You can give variations to the characters."

Regarding the time slot, he continued, "Honestly, I wanted a 9 PM slot as even earlier all the shows I have done were prime time but then I thought and calculated, and realised that 7 is perhaps a good time slot given that elections, IPL and then upcoming World Cup will take away the major prime slots."

What about web series? What kind of content intrigues him the most? "I wouldn't want to say no because as an actor it gives you an option to explore. It doesn't get monotonous as it does in daily soaps. You can experiment, but I want to do clean work. I have been approached by a lot of OTT platforms, but I haven't found anything worth being a part of. The content should be good, no sleazy content for me. I should be okay sitting with my family and watch the show, be it on TV or web series."

Lastly, when asked if he is still in touch with Aditi, his Naamkarann co-star, the handsome actor shared that he is not as she hasn't been reverting to anyone. "I think she needs her personal space currently," he concluded.
