Box Office Report: Varun-Alia's Badrinath Ki Dulhania is set to be the 2nd highest opener of 2017
Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's Badrinath Ki Dulhania has performed well on its first day and is set to be the second biggest opener of 2017.
Shashank Khaitan's Badrinath Ki Dulhania has opened to great reviews and a positive response from the audience. Initial reports suggest that the Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer has done very well on day one with the movie collecting around INR 12.25 crore. Interestingly, the numbers are very similar to Akshay Kumar's Jolly LLB 2.
If these are the numbers then Badrinath Ki Dulhania is all set to be the second highest opener of 2017 with only Shah Rukh Khan's Raees being ahead of it with INR 20.06 crore. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is also the second highest opener for Varun Dhawan after ABCD 2, if Dilwale is kept aside. Jolly LLB 2 earned INR 12.05 crore on day 1.
According to a trade site, the collections of the movie have beaten Jolly LLB 2 in most circuits. However, Delhi city and East Punjab have suffered a shortfall. Rains in East Punjab seems to have affected the collections by 10-15%.
Given that the movie enjoys an extended weekend with Holi on Monday, the film can earn huge numbers. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania made INR 73 crore nett when both Alia and Varun were relatively new stars. Now that they have established themselves slightly better, it won't be surprising that the second part might perform better and higher than the first one.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania, directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, released on March 10, 2017. While Alia is winning hearts for her chirpy and spunky avatar, it is Varun who is lauded for his performance. Going by the reports, it seems, the duo have a hattrick in their kitty already!
