The much talked about Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer Raazi which is a spy thriller was released yesterday, May 11, 208 and has been receiving a decent response from the movie audiences. According to a trade analyst, the movie has earned Rs 7.53 crore on its opening day and the movie got a steady 15% occupancy rate during morning shows in the theatres and reports suggest that the collections may increase if Raazi gets good word of mouth publicity and good reviews from the critics. The movie has no strong competition from other releases, apart from Marvel’s Avengers:Infinity War but it will not pose a great challenge to Raazi.

In the movie which was helmed by Meghna Gulzar of Talvar fame, Alia Bhatt plays the role of a spy who gets married to Pakistani military officer to report back information to Indian authorities. For the unversed, the movie is based on the novel Calling Sehmat by Harinder Sikka. Apart from Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, the movie also stars Soni Razdan, Rajit Kapoor, Amruta Khanvilkar and Shishir Sharma in key roles.

In an interview with DNA, Vicky Kaushal got candid about doing the movie and his role in Raazi. When he was asked how did he get the role, the actor said, "I got a call from Karan (Johar) who asked me to come and meet Meghna (Gulzar) as she felt I was suitable for the part. She gave me a gist of the story, narrated two scenes and wanted me to film them so that she gets an idea of how Alia and I looked together. It was more like a screen test. Next day, I got a call from them and they told me I was on board for the film. I was bowled over after reading the script because rarely do you turn to the last page and feel ki yeh sach much hua tha? Do these people really exist who live in ambiguity to protect their own countrymen? I feel that’s so selfless and brave of them — as their duty demands that we don’t come to know of their heroism. It’s a story that the whole nation will be proud of."

Meanwhile, during an interview with Filmfare, Alia revealed how emotionally exhausting shooting for Raazi was. She said, "It was exhausting. But that's also why I chose it. There were days when I'd be thinking, 'Oh my god! Aj yeh scenes hai'! I had to build up strength and emotion. That feeling is scary. But it's also addictive. When you move past that feeling, you give your best. Whether it was during Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi or Raazi. Coming back to the earlier question, I don't know if I identified with the girl. She's an extremely brave girl. I'm not saying I'm not brave. But I'm not that brave. I can't just drop everything."
