EXCLUSIVE: Vidya Balan - I haven't experienced nepotism but Kangana Ranaut feels that way
Vidya Balan reacts to the ongoing nepotism controversy triggered after Kangana Ranaut's statements on the Karan Johar chat show.
Whether nepotism exists in Bollywood, has been a hot topic of discussion ever since Kangana Ranaut and Karan Johar's controversy grabbed headlines. Kangana called KJo a snooty flag bearer of nepotism on his show, Koffee with Karan. This statement didn't go down well with Karan, who retorted to it by saying that Kangana doesn't know the meaning of nepotism and that he is tired of seeing the actress play the victim card and the woman card.
Recently, when we met Vidya Balan for an interview, we tried to get her take on the entire issue. The Begum Jaan actress, who has made it all by herself in Bollywood, said, "I personally haven't experienced that. I have absolutely no one in the film industry but I did have the luxury of choice because I am a Bombay girl. My parents and sister were extremely supportive. I didn't have to run away from home and survival was never an issue and therefore I am saying that it is a luxury of choice. When you have to first sort out survival issues then it becomes very difficult for you to really.... Your choices are dictated by that. I knew whatever happened, I had a family to go back to, a house to go back to and would get food on my table. I could work at my pace. I have come this far because of merit and self-belief. I think nothing is impossible."
She added, "But having said that, Kangana feels that way. To each his own. Everyone has different experiences. I am no one to comment but my experiences are different. There are camps but let's not forget that human beings have favourites. You talk of the tribe, it has been there since time immemorial. It has been there in the animal kingdom too. And that is how it operates. Not just in the film industry but everywhere. Wherever people can, they will look out for their own people. But thankfully I have been a God's favourite child."
Well, we quite agree with what Vidya has to say on this topic. What do you guys think?
